Religion and the Torture Debate
Does one's religion influence one's view on the justified use of torture?
Wow, do you have any theories as to why the Protestants are more likely than others to support torture in this general case hypothetical question? I wonder if this is due to some special notion or righteousness to which Protestants hold.
It might be a broader reflection of Protestant (and especially Evangelical) tendencies to be very patriotic. Many NT passages encourage patriotism and good citizenship. Maybe Protestant Christians tend to be more trusting of government actions, thinking they know more inside information that justifies actions that may, from the outside, appear bad.
