Persecution for Christ's sake... 7/19/2010

From the Wall Street Journal Photo blog: "Pakistani volunteers carried away the bodies of a pair of Pakistani Christian brothers accused of blasphemy against Islam The brothers were shot to death Monday as they left a court in Faisalabad."
Here is the full story of this crime from the Associated Press.

Let us pray for the family of the victims, and also for all those who are persecuted for Christ's sake today. We must work to enhance and protect the freedom of speech and thought.
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

  1. As soon as I started reading this article Matthew 5:10 came to my mind, so I was excited when I came to it at the bottom of the post! My mother always told us this verse and used it to inspire us to live and stand for Christ no matter what the consequences. She taught us that we would one day be rewarded for our earthly persecution for Christ. It saddens me that these men were killed for their faith, but it makes me proud that they didn't let go of it even in death. This blog also made me appreciate the United States and our freedom to express our beliefs. *Chelsea Banks

  2. It is certainly impressive that they chose to keep their faith strong and did not denounce Christ, even when they knew their lives were in peril. It is so difficult to imagine one's very life being threatened because of a belief one holds; difficult to imagine even though this happens all around the world even today. US is, in general, a wonderful exception to this.
